Notes From the Intercom

The cheerful voice behind Asylum’s speaker keeps notes on every session. Newest first, as he insists: “we look forward in this practice!”

The facts about the voice

The voice on the intercom is the villain of Asylum, a strictly 18+ psychological horror escape room designed, built and run by Escape This at Escape This Northbridge, Sydney CBD and Melbourne CBD. Players wake restrained in a padded cell while he promises therapy, and must escape before he returns for a final procedure.

This diary is comic fiction written by Escape This. He is not a real therapist and no real hospital, patient or event is described; patients in his notes are never real players. It gives away no puzzle. Lorraine, his Melbourne microphone, is invented for the diary.

Readers of theundertaker.com.au will recognise him: in that comic diary the Undertaker claims the intercom voice as one of his own personalities, and here the therapist returns the favour by calling him the gentleman downstairs. Facts beside each entry, such as group sizes and the 18+ rule, come from Escape This’s booking records and are kept current.

FAQ

About Notes From the Intercom

Is Asylum’s therapist the same character as the Undertaker?

In The Undertaker’s Diary, yes: that comic diary treats the voice on the intercom as one of the Undertaker’s alter egos, alongside Cannibal’s Northbridge Butcher. In the Notes From the Intercom he calls the Undertaker “the gentleman downstairs with the boxes”. Asylum itself never names its villain, and both diaries are fiction by Escape This.

Which dates in the Notes From the Intercom are real?

The three openings. Escape This’s booking records give Asylum’s first day at Escape This Northbridge as 31 October 2023, at Sydney CBD as 23 May 2025 and at Melbourne CBD as 3 October 2026, and the therapist’s opening-day notes carry those dates. The other dates are picked for the story.
